Face Thread Lift

The majority of threads used today are made from polydioxanone (PDO), a suture material used in cardiovascular and plastic surgery polymers that break down in the body over time. Beyond the resorbable materials they’re made from, threads can differ by design—which is what ultimately determines their specific benefits.

Usually only one is necessary, but this varies from person to person, For ultimate lasting results, maintenance once or twice a year, replenishing the dissolved threads may be needed to lift and volumize the facial wrinkles.

None, since thread lifts are non-surgical and minimally invasive. Post-procedure discomfort, swelling, and bruising will subside in a few days. Rarely you have bunching or dimpling of the skin, but this will be mild and resolve within a week. Most of our patients return to their normal daily routine with minimal to no downtime—they might just be bruised, sore or swollen for a few days.

For most patients, the most uncomfortable part of the procedure is the local anesthetic that’s introduced at the treatment site. After this anesthetic takes effect, there is usually no pain, and no discomfort to speak of, just a slightly pulling sensation at the treatment site.

Threads will gradually dissolve over six to ten months, but because of their collagen promoting effects, you may see some results that last upwards of between 12 and 24 months.

The ultimate goal is to provide an effective, yet subtle, lifting of the skin, which provides an improved, youthful appearance, without the downtime, recovery and discomfort of traditional face lifts and body lifts.

Since threads aren’t addressing every aspect of aging, “they work best in combination with other treatments, such as Botox, Hyaluronic fillers, radiofrequency energy devices, Ultherapy, resurfacing LASERS and other biostimulators such as Sculptra” says Leslie Forrester APRN. “Someone who needs a lot of volume replacement may benefit from combination treatment modalities in conjunction with thread lift.”

Like all injections, avoid touching and contaminating the face, avoid make up for a day or two. If bruises are visible, avoid sun exposure and avoid aspirin.

Just like Botox and fillers, the PDO threads will dissolve in a matter of months. However, unless the thread is extruding, the removal is possible and easier. Patients should be aware, however, that the removal process is often much tougher than the placement, and will be an additional fee.
