At the Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery Institute we specialize in hand rejuvenation in Chicago

which includes tightening sagging, wrinkled skin, improving age spots on hands, and filling in depressions that have emerged over time with dermal fillers for hand rejuvenation (namely Restylane Lyft and Radiesse). Hand rejuvenation treatments can provide immediate hand restoration by adding volume, which creates younger, smoother looking hands.

Hand Rejuvenation

Did you know when we meet each other the hands are the second feature we notice in one another, behind only the face? Yet, when we think about anti-aging medical treatments, we immediately think almost exclusively of the face. What many people do not realize is that hand rejuvenation can make you look more youthful and vibrant, sometimes just as much, or even more so, than facial treatments can. Do your hands give away your age? As we age, our hands undergo atrophy (shrinking) and begin to look bony and skeletonized. Plump, youthful, smooth skin begins to disappear, and instead, the appearance of fragile, protruded veins and tendons take over. Prolonged sun exposure over time creates thin, flecked skin with unsightly brown spots. No matter how many visits you take to the manicurist, she will not be able to address your old, aged hands. Do you wish you had smoother skin on your hands and the brown spots could just go away? Well, now is the time to do something about it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can benefit from hand rejuvenation in Chicago?

  • Those who want beautiful, youthful hands and fingers
  • Those who want to improve crepey skin texture of the back of the hands and fingers
  • Those who have bony, deflated back of hands with bones, joints and tendons showing
  • Those who have veiny hands with large, dilated veins and bruises
  • Those who have brown age spots and sun damage

Volume replenishment will do the job. Wear and tear of the small joints of the hands has given you thickened knuckles and sunken the spaces between your metatarsal bones (the five bones that make up your hands). Filling in these spaces will improve the appearance of the hands.

  • Fat transfer to the back of the hands. This in-office, no downtime procedure involves extracting small amounts of unwanted fat from your body, which is then transferred painlessly to your hands. This may need to be repeated two to three years (sometimes even longer, depending on the patient). This option provides an excellent, smooth result.
  • PRP Therapy. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is extracted from blood drawn from you and either injected directly to your hands, or mixed with fat or other fillers, and then injected in your hands. An additional dose of PRP is injected directly into the skin on the back of the hands.
  • Radiesse is a liquid calcium filler that is painlessly injected into the back of the hands with tiny needles and then massaged. The Radiesse is spread evenly over the entire back of the hands. Two or three vials per hand may be necessary for an optimal result. This also may need to be repeated every eight to 16 months for optimal results.
  • Restylane Lyft is another filler that can be utilized for hand rejuvenation. Restylane Lyft is a hyaluronic acid, like most other fillers, but its specially formulated particle matrix makes it a great option for hand rejuvenation. It usually takes one-to-two syringes per hand for optimal hand rejuvenation results. As with all fillers, results are pretty much immediately visible.
  • Sculptra is a different kind of filler, known as a bio-stimulator volumizer. It is Poly-L-Lactic acid (PPLA). This painless, in-office procedure is quick and safe for hands, as well as the face. Patients may need three or four sessions of Sculptra spaced a few weeks apart. The result are long-lasting, up to three or more years.

The hands are usually forgotten when applying sunscreen and your hands will show sun damage in the form of brown spots. Specific lasers can remove brown spots, such as:

  • The Picosure laser, or The Lutronic Spectra laser in the Q switch mode, will erase the brown “age spots” and enhance collagen elastin in the skin.
  • Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is used to eliminate these pesky spots over the back of the hands.
  • Resurfacing erbium, or carbon dioxide lasers, are very effective for overall texture improvement and tightening of the skin
  • Chemical peels to remove some brown spots and improve skin texture and laxity can also be a good option
  • Different lasers offer varying degrees of downtime or other side effects and many require more than one session. Your medical provider will offer expectations for each laser.

The simplest way is a treatment called sclerotherapy, which is the painless injection of a liquid (sclerosant) into the veins. Introducing this liquid into the vein causes the collapse and closure of the veins.

It’s hard to put an exact, or even a ballpark figure here, as some filers last longer than others, and some fillers will continue to enhance the result over time if the proper treatment schedule is followed. One unique advantage to using fillers in the hands is that fillers, or even transferred fat from your own body, last longer in the hands than they do in the face because the skin on the back of your hands is less mobile than the skin on your face, for instance.

Laser and filler treatments usually last between 15 and 45 minutes, but fat injection may take longer since fat needs to be harvested from your body first.

Usually immediately, which is another added benefit of hand rejuvenation. Some fillers need time to stimulate new, youthful tissue (Sculptra), which means results become more noticeable over time, yet the added benefit of these fillers is that the results will usually last considerably longer, so it’s a give and take. Also, some laser treatments need time to manifest themselves, so a tad more patience is required when undergoing laser rejuvenation treatments.

Filler injections into the hands may require yearly maintenance, however fat injection into the hands may not need a second procedure for some time, probably several years. Laser rejuvenation will usually require three or more treatments, spaced about a month apart. However, more powerful resurfacing lasers (CO2) usually only require one yearly session.
